Volunteer work
A volunteer enters and maintains animal profiles: photographs, descriptions, the journal and the status. This is what each field means and what happens when you change it.
What a volunteer does
Every animal has a profile: name, kind, city, photographs, a short description and a story. The profile is a public page that search engines read too, so what you write there is also read by somebody who has never seen the shelter.
You can edit an animal if you entered it or if you are an administrator. When a volunteer leaves a shelter their animals, notes and posts stay — nothing is deleted, they only lose the right to edit.
Adding an animal
- Open “Add animal” and enter the name, the kind and the city — those three make the profile's address.
- Add a profile photograph. It is what appears on cards and when the page is shared, so use the one where the animal is seen best.
- Write a short description. The first sentence is what shows in search results and in a shared link.
- Fill in the cost table if the shelter keeps one — the monthly figure on the profile is calculated from it.
- Save. The profile is public straight away, unless you set its status to “unlisted”.
The journal and animal of the day
The journal is a run of dated photographs. One post a day is enough, and it is what somebody who follows the animal sees.
A shelter administrator can mark one animal as the animal of the day. It then appears on the site's front page for that day.
When you mark an animal as adopted, the site announces it by itself. The announcement is public and is written once — check the status before you save.
Reporting content
The app has a report button on the account tab and on each photograph's profile. A report does not wait in the send queue and does not require an account.
It reaches kontakt@zooplanet.org and a person reads it. Nothing about it is stored in the database, so the message in that mailbox is the only record.
